Out of nowhere, grief can hit you, in the most innocuous times.. like tonight for me. And it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to start this blog.
Tonight, I went to town to go grocery shopping, but first, I had to stop and fill my gas tank. Stepping out of my car and approaching the pump, I recognized the tune playing over the outdoor speakers, it was a David Allan Coe song – https://youtu.be/nOAz9tMYs1Y
The memories began to flood, but I took a deep breath and tried to focus on fueling my car. I was lost for a few minutes, remembering the time my late husband introduced me to David Allan Cole’s music, an artist I was unfamiliar with. As the song ended, and my fuel tank was close to full, another song came on..another David Allan Coe song – https://youtu.be/a8oWdWRUAsk
I realized it must be a CD playing and I needed to get going soon, or the rush of memories would trigger an emotional breakdown.
The reality of grief is that everything is a trigger, even the smallest of encounters, like hearing a song at a gas pump.
